Where does scale come from?
In the natural environment, the water is capable of attracting and consequently dissolving minerals which make up the rocks. Installations and appliances have a higher electric potential than the water which flows through them. All the minerals dissolved in the water are precipitated inside the equipment. The result is scale.
Lime scale forms everywhere - on water heaters, kettle walls, vessels - and it keeps
on growing, creating problems and costs:
- Scale forming on pipe walls tends to clog them causing corrosion and does not deliver heat.
As a heat conductor it is twenty times worse than steel. The resulting loss of energy in central heating systems can total up to 60% and more than 30% of maintenance charges.
- Each additional millimeter of scale adds 10% to your energy bills.
- Lime scale shortens the life of household equipment by up to 25%.
A dishwasher could remain functional for 12 years, but because of lime scale it will not last longer than 9. Hard water accelerates the wearing out of all the valves, temperature regulators, seals, filters, etc. Gauge and meter indications can be faulty due to scale.
- Each time you take a shower, the minerals contained in hard water does not dissolve, leaving an awful film on skin and hair. You use more soap and are still not satisfied with the result. The same is true when doing the laundry. Because of hard water, your clothes wear out 15% quicker.
